Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board CE Requirements
As a Licensed Residential Appraiser, you must renew your license every two years. A renewal notice will be sent out about 90 days before your expiration date. You may renew your license up to six months after the expiration date. After six months, you may apply for reinstatement of your license. Complete 28 hours of approved appraiser continuing education (ACE) courses during the two year license period, which must include a 7 hour National USPAP Update course. Use the ACE Course search tool to see a list of currently approved providers and courses. After completing your course work, you are welcome to submit a course evaluation.

Updated State Requirements
Active members of the State Bar must complete a minimum of 15.00 hours (3.00 hours of which must be in ethics) of continuing legal education (CLE) every compliance year.
At least 12.00 of the total 15.00 hours must be accredited CLE. The remainder can be fulfilled through self-study. All 15.00 hours may be completed through online learning. There is no in-person CLE requirement.
MCLE credits, including self-study, can be reported online on the attorney’s My Bar Page account at www.texasbar.com.
A maximum of 3.00 hours (including 1.00 hour of ethics) of the 15.00 hours can be fulfilled through self-study. Self-study credit includes reading legal, peer-reviewed publications, or attending non-accredited CLE activities.

Texas Real Estate Commission CE Requirements
- Complete 18 hours of approved Continuing Education (CE) courses
- 8 hours of TREC Legal Update I and II
- 3 hours of contract-related coursework
- 7 hours of elective CE
- If you have sponsored one or more sales agents, served as the designated broker for a business entity broker that sponsors sales agents, or have been made a supervisor of other license holders, you must complete the 6 hour Broker Responsibility Course as part of your 18 hours of CE.
- If TREC records do not reflect completion of CE requirements at the time you submit your renewal application, you must pay a $200 CE Deferral Fee, or renew in inactive status. Payment of the CE Deferral Fee allows you to remain active for an additional 60 days from your expiration date to complete CE requirements. To receive the additional 60 days to complete any outstanding CE, the CE Deferral fee must be paid before the expiration date of your license.
- If your license expires, you cannot renew until CE requirements are met and you have paid the CE Deferral Fee. If you complete CE more than 60 days after your license expiration date, you will be subject to an additional late reporting fee of $250.
- If you have not submitted your fingerprints for TREC with a previous renewal or application you must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.
- Renewal Date: Every two years by the month in which the license was initially issued
- Hours Required: 18 hours
- 4 hours – Legal Update I: Laws, Rules and Forms
- 4 hours – Legal Update II: Agency, Ethics, and Hot Topics
- 3 hours – Contracts Course (students who complete this course requirement prior to February 1, 2021 but who have a renewal date after February 1st will have their course reported as fulfilling the requirement). A list of Texas approved contract courses is available here.
- 7 hours – Electives
- Note: If you are a supervising agent, you must complete the 6-hour broker responsibility course as part of your 18 hours of CE.
- Max hours in a 24-hour period – Texas real estate licensees will not receive credit for more than 12 hours of CE per day.
